Role of a Security Guard

Protect people, property, and information with a calm, visible presence. Control access, monitor risks, report incidents, and uphold SIA standards with professional customer service.

Crowd Control

Plan safe flows and capacity, set clear perimeters and search points, and use confident communication to de-escalate while keeping emergency routes clear.

Powers of Arrest

You don’t have police powers; use only the ‘any person’ arrest for indictable offences when necessary. State your grounds, use minimal force, call police immediately, and record everything.

Patrol Techniques

Vary routes and times, check doors, exits, and hazards, and log proof-of-presence with time-stamped reports. Prioritise lone-worker safety and radio discipline.

Use of Force

Absolute last resort—only when necessary, reasonable, and proportionate. Prefer verbal skills and disengagement, stop once the threat ends, and provide aftercare and a clear report.

First Aid

Make the area safe, assess response, airway and breathing, then act: CPR/AED, control severe bleeding, and treat shock. Maintain hygiene and record in the accident book.
